If you are viewing something that is relatively close, it could seem to be a lot further away. The proportion of the object could dramatically increase making the nearest to your camera seem very big whilst the ones that are furthest away would appear to fade away to the distance.
If you imagine viewing through a wide angle lens with two lines going away from your camera, the lines will eventually appear to merge somewhere in the distance. With a wide angle lens the name for this is, the perspective vanish point.
This means that the parallel lines could represent a small point that will not be seen at all from this distance. A normal camera lens could be further from the focal plane than it would be for a Cannon wide angle lens.
When using a camera with a wide angle lens, it would appear that the object that is furthest away will look much smaller when it is really of a similar size. This will help you to understand the perspective and effect that you will be able to achieve when using a wide angle lens.
The benefits to the photographer when using a wide angle lens are many and as already mentioned, the closest subject to the camera will be the main subject. If you use a wide angle lens when taking your photographs, you will find it much easier to help focus your viewer’s perspective on your main object.

One of the benefits of using the canon wide angle lense is that you get a stronger depth of field. What that means is that you’ll be able to keep everything in focused including items both in the foreground and background.
Of course you could achieve the same thing by simply using a bigger lens. However, doing that will mean your camera will become heavier which may require that you use a tripod. Additionally, using a bigger lens will result in slower shutter speed and reduce the overall quality of your photograph.
